To design an easy-to-manage, professional website that promotes Cholsey Great Hall as a flexible venue for weddings, private hire, and community events - while keeping within a tight budget and empowering the team to manage the site independently.
Cholsey Great Hall is a striking historic venue in Oxfordshire offering a unique setting for events of all kinds. I was brought in to design a simple, user-friendly website using the basic version of Wix, keeping costs low without compromising on professionalism or functionality. The aim was to create an engaging, informative site that reflects the hall’s community focus and supports both private hire and local events.
The design uses simple typography, bold, clear shapes and clean layouts to mirror the building’s strong architectural character, while maintaining accessibility and clarity across all devices. Light animations add a sense of movement and polish, without overwhelming the user experience. The website structure guides visitors through key sections - venue hire information, image galleries, local events, and booking guidance.
To support day-to-day use, I implemented a straightforward events and booking system, allowing the client to easily add, remove, and update content. The site aligns with the hall’s existing branding and has become a central hub for the local community to explore what’s on or enquire about hosting their own events.
This project is a great example of how thoughtful design and strategic use of tools - even on a basic platform - can deliver a site that is both functional and visually confident.
